Pelicans’ Brandon Ingram Placed in Concussion Protocol
New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram has been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol.
Following a collision with teammate Naji Marshall that saw him take a hit to the face, New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward Brandon Ingram has been placed under the NBA’s concussion protocol. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Ingram has indeed suffered a concussion that could keep him out for a few games, including tomorrow’s showdown against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
This is a very unfortunate development in the Pelicans’ camp since there’s also the possibility of Zion Williamson missing a couple of games too. Through three games this season, Ingram has been averaging 22.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, while also shooting a stellar 57.9% overall clip from the field and 57.1% from the three-point line. Ingram exited the game against the Utah Jazz in the second quarter, so there’s a huge chance that his stat line could have been higher if he finished the contest.
Brandon Ingram, who only turned 25 years of age last September, is in his fourth year with the Pelicans. Selected 2nd overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, the lanky 6-foot-8 small forward played his first three years in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers. With the potential of becoming an elite two-way player, Ingram broke out of his shell right after he was traded to the Pelicans in 2019. That year, he averaged a career-high of 23.8 points and notched his first All-Star appearance.
Having accomplished tons of individual goals, Brandon Ingram’s mission this season is to help the Pelicans reach greater heights. They are surely pushing for a playoff seat, and with Ingram, Zion, and CJ McCollum anchoring the team, many people believe that the Pelicans are one of the championship contenders this year.
