Pau Gasol to miss three months
Pau Gasol will be side-lined for three months the Los Angeles Lakers have confirmed. The Spanish forward has been missing from the Lakers team since picking up a knee problem during an injury plagued season. The 32-year old has now undergone minor surgery on the problem and will need three months off the court to recover. The Spaniard tweeted his progress on Thursday.
“Everything has gone well!’ Gasol tweeted Thursday. ‘Now I’ll have to rest my knees and start with the rehab. Thanks everyone for your support!’
Gasol will return to hospital next week to have a follow up procedure with Dr. Steve Yoon of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Group in Los Angeles, that will involve the Spanish international having stem cell replacement therapy to aid in the regeneration of tissue. It is the same procedure that Pau Gasol went through on Thursday and is seen as a fast healing solution where a probe is placed into the knee to destroy scar tissue without disrupting new tissue.
It has been a troubled campaign for the former Memphis Grizzlies player and all in all he has missed 33 games, but in the 53 games he did play he secured averages of 13.7 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. Gasol has been with the Lakers since 2007 and next season is his last on his current $19.3 million
