Patrick Beverley leaves Spartak for the NBA

Patrick BeverleyPatrick Beverley (185 cm, Arkansas’08) will leave his Russian team Spartak Sankt Petersburg and sign with NBA team Houston Rockets until the end of the 2014/2015 season. The head coach of Spartak Sankt Petersburg, Slovenian Jure Zdovc, confirmed this today and said:

“Beverly received an offer from the Houston Rockets which he will accept. We are already in search for a replacement. Jaka Lakovič is our main candidate but we are not sure yet if we will be able to get him.”

Patrick Beverly signed a 3-year deal with Spartak Sankt Petersburg in 2011 and before that played for Greek Olympiakos and Ukrainian Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk.
Houston drafted him as nr.45 in 2009. In order to keep their draft rights, NBA teams MUST offer the players a contract each season, but if that player is free to sign AND rejects those offers then after three years he becomes a free agent.

Ok the Houston Rockets have been saying that they have signed him, but I have yet to see him at a Rockets practice, interview, or in Houston at all! What the deal? When will he actually be here?

This is really success story with nice background.
Heard that he always takes private coach from US to work on fundamentals no matter where he plays.

I’m very happy for this very talemnted player. He arrived in Europe very young to develop his game and really worked hard to get things done.
    Real fans like him.
