Chris Copeland stabbed in New York
Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland and two women were stabbed outside a nightclub in New York City yesterday. Copeland suffered stab wounds to his left elbow and abdomen. His elbow was fractured and the abdominal stab wound hit his diaphram. All injured parties were immediately taken to the hospital. Copeland was made to stay for observation and there currently is no timetable for his return. The Pacers are currently in the hunt for the last Playoff spot in the Eastern conference.
Police report that Copeland was arguing with one of the women, Katrine Saltara, outside of Manhattan hotspot 1 OAK Club at 4 a.m., when one bystander interfered. Things escalated when the suspect pulled out a knife and started slashing. Copeland’s driver subdued the assailant and held him until the Police arrived. The attacker, 22-year-old Shezoy Bleary is currently in custody of the law enforcement authorities.
Two Atlanta Hawks players, Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha, were arrested by the police for hindering the authorities as they were securing the crime scene.
