Orlando Magic Get Easy Win Over Flamengo
The Orlando Magic took an easy preseason win at home against the visiting Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (Brazil-NBB), 106-88. Orlando’s weapon of choice for this encounter was Montenegrin star Nikola Vucevic. He was fantastic with 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Flamengo did their best to keep him in check, but the big man was not to be denied.
The Magic overwhelmed Flamengo offensively in the first quarter, soaring to an 11-point lead (34-23) after the first 12 minutes of action. Flamengo was not down and out for the count so quickly. They came back at Orlando in the second quarter with some solid plays of their own, led by Marcelo Magalhaes Machado, who got his shooting stroke into a solid groove. Flamengo cut the Magic’s lead down to single digits, with the score standing 55-49 at the half.
After the break Orlando continued their assault and expanded on their advantage. The action was entertaining, as both teams to the game with some regular season level intensity at certain moments. That said, the men wearing the blue and white took control of the second half and the quagmire that was their lead grew steadily wider as the minutes ticked by.
Vucevic was just of six Orlando Magic players who scored in double figures. Rookie Aaron Gordon got an opportunity to strut his stuff with 15 points and nine boards. Tobias Harris came up with 14 points and five rebounds of his own.
Marcelo Magalhaes Machado shot 6-of-12 from downtown en route to his 20-point performance. Teammates Nicolas Laprovittola and Jerome Meyinsse chipped in 15 and 13 points respectively.
