Oostende claims Belgian Supercup Title
Telenet BC Oostende cruised to an easy 103-62 victory over the Port of Antwerp Giants to claim their first ever Belgian Supercup title. Oostende took control of the game from the get-go, as they stormed to a 29-15 lead by the end of the first quarter. Antwerp was outclassed in this encounter and could not match-up well against Oostende both on offense and on defense. Oostende pushed their advantage and expanded their lead 57-30, entering into the halftime break.
Antwerp’s defense, or lack thereof, was the main culprit of the lopsided outcome of the contest. Gjergja Dario’s players were able penetrate easily and faced little challenge in transition. The second half of the game was an easy stroll in the park for Oostende as Antwerp was not a threat to their ever-widening lead. Oostende was led by Quentin Serron and J.P. Prince who scored 14 and 13 points respectively.
Antwerp’s Kirk Archibeque ended the night with a game-high 15 points, but his teammates were not able to lend much support. Jordan Callahan added nine points in the losing effort. Antwerp now comes into the 2014-15 season needing to address issues on their defense. Similar results in the Belgian Ethias league will surely lead to some disappointing results.
