Olympiacos, Zenit, Armani triumph on the road in EuroLeague makeup games
Four EuroLeague makeup games took place on Tuesday, with Olympiacos, Zenit Saint Petersburg and Armani Milano earning big road wins.
Olympiacos made one of its best performances this season and triumphed over Barcelona at Palau Blaugrana in a EuroLeague Round 9 game (88-96).
The “Reds” never trailed in the game and led by as many as 15 points to end the Catalans’ undefeated run at home this season.
Even though the Blaugrana cut the deficit to two (77-79), the visitors closed the game on an 11-17 run to seal the deal.
Hassan Martin scored a EuroLeague career-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the winners. Four more players scored in double figures for the Greeks.
Nikola Mirotic and Brandon Davies led the hosts in scoring, with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Olympiacos improved to 6-5 in the EuroLeague standings, whereas Barcelona dropped to 9-3, losing for the second time in the last three games.
Zenit Saint maintained its perfect record on the road, thanks to its 72-85 victory over Valencia (EuroLeague Round 4).
It was a hard-fought battle for the majority of the game, yet the Russians used an 0-10 run in crunch time to claim the win.
Five players scored in double figures for the visitors, with Kevin Pangos posting a double-double (12 points and a club-record 12 assists).
Zenit now is at 7-3 in the EuroLeague, after registering its sixth straight road win, whereas Valencia lost its second straight game at home and dropped to 7-5.
Anadolu Efes returned to the winning track after defeating ASVEL Villeurbanne at home in a EuroLeague Round 5 game (72-68).
The Turks were in control early in the third quarter, leading by 13 points (44-31).
Yet the French turned things around and took the lead midway through the fourth quarter (57-63).
The hosts, though, closed the game on a 15-5 run to earn a much-needed win.
Vasilije Micic (22) and Shane Larkin (18) combined for 40 points for the winners, who improved to 7-5 in the EuroLeague standings.
For their part, ASVEL saw David Lighty and William Howard score 14 apiece, but now have a 3-8 record.
In Moscow (EuroLeague Round 8), Armani Milano retained its momentum after rallying past Khimki (93-102) for their fourth win in the last five EuroLeague games.
Shavon Shields had a EuroLeague career-high 26 points for the Italians, whereas Jonas Jerebko posted 20 points and seven rebounds for the Russians.
Armani improved to 7-4 in the EuroLeague standings, with Khimki losing its fourth straight game and dropping to 2-10.
