Olympiacos falls to first defeat
Round 11 of the Greek A1 took place on December 29th and the round saw Olympiacos lose their first game of the season. The current two time Euroleague champions have started the season in fine fashion going ten unbeaten on the continent and ten unbeaten in the A1. However, the 20 game run was put to an end by KAO Dramas on Monday as Olympiacos fell to a Round 11 coincidence that saw every home team win on the night.
KAOD won 75-69 but it was a close game throughout as Olympiacos fought to maintain their winning streak. The giant trailed by 1 point midway through the game and even held a three point lead after 30 minutes of play. Disappointingly the team succumbed to a 4th quarter collapse where KAOD claimed a 20-11 run to seal a big win. Head Coach Bartzokas Giorgos will be disappointed to see his Olympiacos team concede 25 personal fouls and gift KAOD easy points throughout the game, but he will be hoping the players bounce back for the January 4th clash with Nea Kifisia.
Olympiacos remains on top of the A1 standings with a 10-1 record, but now sees great rival Panathinaikos move onto 10-1 as well in second place. Dramas´ victory sees the club stay in fifth with a 6-5 record. J’Covan Brown (195 cm, Texas´12) was instrumental for the winners and hit 25 points with 7 from 7 at the free throw line. Edin Bavcic (209 cm) was in top form alongside Brown and collected 19 points and 9 rebounds in victory.
Olympiacos guard Matt Lojeski (197 cm, Hawaii´07) was the pick of the bunch in the losing effort and put together a double-double game of 17 points and 10 rebounds.
