Nikola Jokic Will Miss Knicks Game
Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic will miss Wednesday’s matchup against Julius Randle and the New York Knicks. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Jokic has recently entered health and safety protocols, which means that the two-time MVP could miss a couple of games or more. This is the first time this season that Jokic will miss a game.
Nikola Jokic, who was the 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, is coming off another tremendous year in which he won his second Most Valuable Player award. He put up career-highs of 27.1 points and 13.8 rebounds last season, while also dishing out 7.9 assists and tallying 1.5 steals per contest. He had to carry the lion’s share of the offensive workload for the Nuggets, as they missed the services of key cogs Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. But despite Jokic’s individual brilliance, the depleted Nuggets squad came up short in the playoffs, bouncing out of the first round after losing to Steph Curry and the eventual champions Golden State Warriors
But with the return of Murray and Porter this season, the Nuggets are primed for a deeper run in the playoffs. They currently hold an excellent record of nine wins against four defeats, which puts them second in the Western Conference standings. They have the fourth-best offensive rating (116.3) in the league, as bolstered by their total of 28.9 assists per game. Along with Jokic, Murray, and Porter, the Nuggets also have a strong supporting cast that includes Aaron Gordon, Bones Hyland, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Bruce Brown.
