NBA Board of Governors to vote on plan to restart season
A crucial NBA Board of Governors vote is scheduled for Thursday. The topic on the docket: restarting the 2019-20 season.
According to published reports, the plan with the most support is to bring 22 teams to Florida to complete the season and set the stage for the playoffs.
Other proposals have called for all 30 NBA teams to meet in Florida to finish the season at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Different scenarios are on the table to hammer out a plan for the playoffs, too.
NBA Board of Governors’ sense of urgency
The NBA season was suspended on March 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under commissioner Adam Silver’s watchful eye, the NBA Board of Governors are required to have a 75 percent or larger majority on voting to relaunch the season.
As the clock ticks, there’s a sense of urgency to get things underway again.
“We are lining up behind (Silver) on this,” one owner was quoted as saying by ESPN on Friday. “The posturing will end. Nothing is going to be perfect for everyone.”
July 31 is a target date to restart the season, according to published reports.
