LiAngelo Ball, two other UCLA players arrested in China
Three UCLA freshmen have been arrested in China on charges of shoplifting. The UCLA Bruins were on a goodwill trip to China, which included a tour of Disneyland, an exhibition game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and a meeting with Joe Tsai, one of the co-founders of Chinese Megacompany Alibaba. The players involved in the incident are LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill. LiAngelo Ball is the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball, who also attended UCLA.
The UCLA officials accompanying the team have not made any statements regarding the matter. Larry Scott, the PAC-12 conference commissioner, who was traveling with the Bruins had this to say:
“We are very disappointed by any situation that detracts from the positive student-athlete educational and cultural experience that this week is about,” Scott said. “Whether in the United States or abroad, we expect our student-athletes to uphold the highest standards.”
