Joel Embiid Explodes for Career Night
It’s been a slow and bumpy “process” but finally, this could be Joel Embiid’s (213 cm, Kansas’14) time to shine. The Cameroonian-born big man dropped one of the best games of his career against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. In 34 minutes of action, Embiid scored 46 points, hauled in 15 rebounds, handed out seven assists and blocked seven shots. This is a glistening reminder that he has it in him to be considered as one of the NBA’s elite big men.
Embiid’s early career in the NBA has not been smooth sailing with his breakout potential being stymied by a myriad of troublesome injuries. He was taken third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014 NBA Draft but has only recently found a way to be a steady contributor for his team. This is the first season that he’s been allowed to log heavy minutes but has still been made to sit out one half of back-to-back game sets for rest purposes.
He is a special player indeed. He’s quick for his size and has a great touch from medium-to-long range. He’s able to be an excellent two-way player for the rebuilding Sixers. Don’t blink now, because you may just be looking at the future of the NBA.
