Diamantidis honored as Euroleague Legend
Dimitris Diamantidis (196 cm) will be honored as a Euroleague Basketball Legend on Friday, when in Panathinaikos Athens’ last home game in the Top 16. It will be a critical game both for the player and his team. If victorious over Croatian club Cedevita Zagreb, Panathinaikos will advance to the Turkish Airlines Euroleague playoffs.
The 35-year-old team captain has helped his team win three Euroleague championship trophies, in 2007, 2009, and 2011. He was named Final Four MVP during the 2007 and 2011 campaigns.
This will be his last season and as the player has already announced his retirement from the game. Aside from his success in Europe’s highly competitive league, Diamantidis has led the green shirts to nine Greek League titles throughout his illustrious 12-year career.
Dimitris will only be the fifth player to receive such an honor. Dimitris Diamantidis is considered to be one of the best European basketball players of all time.
