3 Favorites to Win the 2020 NBA MVP Award
The NBA regular season is quickly approaching its climax. Fans are eagerly anticipating who will win the 2020 NBA MVP award. Although some fans are swayed by what they see when watching the talking heads on television or what they hear on sports radio from commentators, you can trust us because we are unbiased. We are going to discuss below the three clear favorites to win the 2020 NBA MVP award at this point in the season.
1. LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers)
LeBron James has been seen as a close second to the “Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo in this year’s MVP race up until this point. However, as we discuss below, there are recent developments that have vaulted him into the first position in our eyes. James is having an excellent season this year averaging 25.7 points per game and also a career-high 10.6 assists per game. Rachel Nichols of ESPN has come out publicly and said that James should win the MVP based on his “leadership skills” alone. She cites the “King” successfully recruiting superstar Laker Anthony Davis as an example of this along with the success the Lakers have had this year as a team.
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)
Although many are now saying that LeBron James deserves to be the MVP favorite after his recent performances, we still feel the “Greek Freak” is a solid MVP favorite for 2020. The reigning 2019 MVP is having another monster season this year, averaging 29.6 points and 13.7 rebounds per game. His points per game average is the third-best in the NBA currently. Antetokounmpo’s rebounds per game average is currently fourth-best in the NBA. He is clearly having an amazing season. However, his recent left knee sprain could become a problem if he misses more than a couple of games or if it hinders his performance during the rest of this season. Right now it is a question mark that made us move him down into the number two slot in our list of the top three MVP candidates for 2020.
3. Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks)
Doncic is a dark horse in this year’s MVP race. However, he is having a stellar season for the Mavericks averaging 28.5 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8.7 assists a game. Although he’s averaging almost a triple-double, we don’t think he has the firepower this year to top James or the “Greek Freak.”
