NCAA: Tournament Results, Round 3, Day 1
As the first day of Round 3 of the NCAA Tournament wound down, you could hear a collective groan coming from those that had spent money to join bracket pools. Most of the games went as expected, with the exception of the No. 1 ranked team in the country for the last two weeks of the polls and the No. 1 seed in the West bracket, Gonzaga, was upset by No. 9 Wichita State, 76:70. The other big upset of the day was Midwest No. 12 Oregon took down No. 4 Saint Louis in a big way, 74:57, and will face the tournament’s top seeded club, Louisville, in the Regional Semifinals.
The No. 9 Wichita State win sets up a game with a No. 9 seed and the winner of No. 12 Ole Miss vs No. 13 La Salle. The winner of that will face the winner of West No. 6 Arizona, who destroyed Harvard on Saturday, 74:51 vs. No. 2 Ohio State, who beat No. 10 Iowa State on a buzzer-beater, 75:72, in the game on Sunday.
