NBA Finals: Warriors Cruise to Easy Game 2 Win
The Golden State Warriors preserved their homecourt advantage over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals via a convincing 122-103 win in Game 2. Klay Thompson played through a high-ankle sprain injury and finished with 20 points in 34 minutes. The Bay Area fans jeered J.R. Smith with “M-V-P” chants when he went to the line, rubbing salt in the wounds left by his mental lapse in Game 1 that allowed Golden State to force overtime and eventually secure the win.
Stephen Curry put on a shooting clinic, bombarding the Cavaliers with nine 3-pointers en route to his game-high 33 points. The defending champs played in championship form and when the Warriors are in that mode, they’re near-impossible to stop. They shot a crazy 57.3 percent from the field, as Kevin Durant chipped in 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
After coming off his 51-point performance in Game 1, LeBron James slowed down in this one but still finished with 29 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists. Kevin Love chimed in with a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The series now shifts to Ohio, with the Cavs having their backs to the wall. Expect James and company to pull out all the stops and do #WhateverItTakes to take a step towards evening things out. One game at a time. The Warriors, if they want to steal a game on the road, will need to bring their A game, especially against a player of James’ caliber.
