NBA Daily Roundup: Kevin Durant Lifts Nets Yet Again
The Brooklyn Nets got another huge lift from superstar forward Kevin Durant.
Clutch Kevin Durant Saves the Nets’ Night
It does pay off to have a bona fide superstar on your team. The Brooklyn Nets found that out the right way, with Kevin Durant leading them to a 98-94 win over the Charlotte Hornets. Durant led the charge for the short-handed Nets squad, finishing with 27 points and taking over the fourth quarter to lead his team to their fourth win in ten games. Cam Thomas, who scored 21 markers, came off the bench to log another productive game.
With All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons sitting out of the contest, the Nets found themselves trailing the Hornets by double digits in the final period. They could have put their feet off the pedal, but Kevin Durant took over the game and willed the Nets to the victory. This is the second game since the team decided to suspend Kyrie Irving, and they have been undefeated so far.
Only three Charlotte players scored double digits in the low-scoring affair, with Terry Rozier producing 18 markers on 7-of-15 shooting from the field. The Hornets have lost four games in a row, dropping them to a 3-7 record in the Eastern Conference standings.
Hawks Maintain Composure in OT Victory
It was a back-and-forth affair, but the Atlanta Hawks edged out the visiting New Orleans Pelicans in overtime, 124-121. Trae Young led all scorers with 34 points, while combo guard Dejounte Murray turned in a triple-double performance of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Hawks center Clint Capela also turned in one of his best performances this season, as he amassed a massive double-double night of 21 points, 19 rebounds, and 4 blocks. It has been an up-and-down campaign for Capela so far, but the Hawks are hoping that this game against the Pelicans could help turn things around for the 28-year-old big man.
CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson scored 29 apiece for the Pelicans, while Herb Jones chipped in 19 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. The Pelicans fall to a 5-4 record, while the Hawks improve to a 6-3 slate.
