Milwaukee Bucks reach first NBA finals in 47 years
The Milwaukee Bucks are going to the NBA Finals after beating the Atlanta Hawks on the road in Game 6. Khris Middleton had a monumental third quarter to lead the Bucks to a 118-107 win at State Farm Arena.
The Bucks knew they would be without their superstar scorer Giannis Antetokounmpo in the close-out game in Georgia. The Greek has been sidelined since the third quarter of Game 4 when he hyperextended his knee trying to grab a rebound.
Just like they did on Saturday night in Milwaukee, the Bucks starters stepped up in the absence of the two-time NBA MVP. Khirs Middleton had a slow first half but had an offense explosion out of the halftime break, while Jrue Holiday flirted with a triple-double for the newly crowned Eastern Conference Champions.
Trae Young, who had missed the previous two games with a bone bruise in his ankle, returned to action tonight with Atlanta facing elimination. Young was visibly uncomfortable at times as his mobility was limited, and he struggled to find his rhythm on the offensive end.
For the second straight game, Milwaukee won in wire-to-wire fashion. They took an early seven-point lead thanks to another quick start from Holiday. Bobby Portis hit the two free throws to put the Bucks up in the opening possession, and they would not look back from there.
The Milwaukee Bucks are on to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1974. The big question going into the Championship series is, will Giannis Antetokounmpo’s hyperextended left knee be healed for the Finals opener.
The Milwaukee Bucks will meet the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals. Game 1 is set to tip-off from Arizona on Tuesday night.
