Manny Pacquiao to coach Pro Hoops team
Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao is crossing over into professional basketball. No, not as a player (yet), but as head coach of a new team entering the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). KIA Columbian Autocar Corporation will be fielding one of three new teams set to enter the nation’s premier basketball league this October 19, 2014.
The 35-year-old boxer is also a sitting Congressman in the House of Representatives. The athlete-turned-politician has always been fond of basketball as a sport. When he’s not in the boxing gym training for his next bout, you will normally see Pacquiao sweating it out on the hardwood playing a fast-paced game of 5-on-5. The current WBO welterweight champ also said that he is willing to be a player-coach. If he does decide to don a jersey and play alongside the players he will be coaching, he will have to through the annual PBA Draft. Needless to say, this exceptional athlete of many interests will have his hands full as he juggles everything on his plate.
