Malik Hairston wins claim vs. Galatasaray (BAT)
Malik Hairston (198 cm, Oregon’08) filed a claim against his former team Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul (Turkey-BSL) at the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT). He was claiming for outstanding salaries, bonuses, rental fees and interest. Hairston was on the roster of Galatasaray for the 2013-14 season. He is currently with AEK Athens (Greece-A1).
The arbitrator of the case ruled in favor of the claimant (Hairston) and provided the award as follows:
1. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay to Mr. Malik Hairston the amount of USD 71,867.00net for outstanding salary, plus interest at the rate of 5% p.a. from 30 October 2014.
2. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay to Mr. Malik Hairston the amount of USD 14,000.00 net as reimbursement for rental fees, plus interest at the rate of 5% p.a. from 7 October 2015.
3. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi is ordered to pay to Mr.Malik Hairston the amount of EUR 6,500.00 as a contribution towards his legal fees and expenses. Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi shall bear its own legal fees and expenses.
4. The costs of this arbitration until the present Award, which were determined by the President of the
BAT to be in the amount of EUR 5,000.00, shall be borne in the rate of 2/3 by Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi and in the rate of 1/3 by Mr. Malik Hairston. Accordingly,Galatasaray Spor Kulübü Dernegi shall pay to Mr. Malik Hairstonthe amount of EUR 3,333.33.5.Any arbitration costs associated with a Request for Reasons shall be advanced by the requesting party.
6.Any other or further-reaching requests for relief are dismissed.
