Lukoil Academic Sofia takes 2-1 lead in NBL finals
Lukoil Academic Sofia took control of the Bulgarian NBL finals series by grabbing a road win against Levski Sofia to take a 2-1 lead in the best of five contest. The defending champs will now have the chance to close out the series and win the title in Game 4, which will once again take place in Levski’s home court.
If Academic Sofia manages to find success in the series it will be the clubs 12th consecutive NBL title as the outfits unprecedented dominance continues.
Levski Sofia vs. Lukoil Academic Sofia, 99-106
Levski got the better of a high scoring first quarter as the hosts outpaced Lukoil to take a 27-25 lead after 10 minutes. In the second frame the end to end baskets stopped as Lukoil Academic Sofia took control of the game and raced into the lead, winning the second quarter 19-28 to hold a 46-53 lead at halftime. The visitors continued their high scoring exploits by pouring in 28 points in Q3, while Levski could only keep in touch with 25 points (71-81). With a double digit lead going into the fourth quarter, Lukoil could afford to ease off, and while Levski Sofia won the last stanza 28-25 it was not enough to stop the away team claiming the win.
Marco Killingsworth stood out for Lukoil Sofia with 19 points and 5 boards, while Tony Weeden collected 19 points and 8 assists.
Brandon Heath had a blistering game for Levski Sofia, picking up 39 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists. Lionel Chalmers was also in good touch for the losers with 24 points.
