Ludwigsburg will replace coach Steven Key by John Patrick
Ludwigsburg will replace coach Steven Key by John Patrick. The German Bundesliga team is in 17th place of the BBL with a 5-12 record. It looks like this weekend’s 73-78 home loss of Neckar RIESEN Ludwigsburg against Walter Tigers Tuebingen was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The 44 year old Steven Key is a former player who was a legend in Germany after playing almost seven seasons there. Key graduated from Boston in 1990. He starterted his coaching career in the German Bundesliga 2nd division (now called Pro A) during the 2003/2004 season and was also active in the American WNBA, both as assistant- and as headcoach. He returned to Germany to coach the LTi Giessen 46ers in the second part of the 2010/2011 season and last season he was hired by Ludwigsburg.
Ludwigsburg is expected to appoint the new coach tomorrow and that will be another American with a German track record; John Patrick. Interestingly enough, he is the same age as Keys and has the same background. Started as a player in Germany and then became a coach.
