Los Angeles Lakers interested in Andre Drummond, per report
The good news for the Los Angeles Lakers is that they have the third-best record in the Western Conference. The bad news is Anthony Davis has been out with an Achilles injury since mid-February.
The Lakers have not fared too well without their All-Star big man in the lineup. In fact, the Lakers have dropped six of their last nine games going into the midseason break.
Needless to say, the Los Angeles Lakers are hurting without Davis in the rotation. Initially, the Lakers were interested in acquiring Blake Griffin to help solve their issue in the frontcourt. Unfortunately, he chose to join the Brooklyn Nets.
Given that fact, it is being reported that the Lakers are interested in Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond.
Why Andre Drummond is a good fit for the Lakers
Drumond has appeared in 25 games for the Cavaliers this season. He has compiled averages of 17.5 points and 13.5 points per contest. Simply put, Drummond is capable of putting up solid numbers on a nightly basis. Taking that into consideration, it’s easy to understand why the Lakers are interested in adding him to their roster.
Aside from a production standpoint, this move makes sense for a couple of reasons. First of all, LeBron James has been playing additional minutes for the Lakers. Sure, James is in great shape. However, James playing extended minutes is not an ideal scenario in the long term.
When Davis injured his Achilles, he was expected to be out about four weeks. But if he is out longer than that, Drummond is a serviceable option. Furthermore, one of the reasons the Lakers won the title last season was their size. Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee provided timely contributions during the team’s playoff run.
Although Drummond hasn’t played in over a month, he would make for a solid addition to a Lakers squad looking to successfully defend its title.
