Lithuanian rivals collide in LKL
The biggest rivalry in Lithuanian basketball added another chapter yesterday as B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas and Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius took to the hardwood in a clash between two Top-3 teams in the Lithuanian LKL. Zalgiris was coming off a tough loss from last week and was eager to get back on the winning track via a win against their rivals. Zalgiris got their wish and thanks to solid shooting from the perimeter, they were able to close out the game 72-79.
Zalgiris controlled the game from the beginning and established an early 12-17 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Lietuvos Rytas would fight their way back into the game in the second period, culling the white shirts’ lead to just one as both clubs headed to their respective locker rooms for the halftime break.
It was back-and-forth from there, but Zalgiris use a big fourth-quarter run to seal the game. Kevin Pangos and Brock Motum led Zalgiris’ charge with 13 points each. David Logan would pace Lietuvos Rytas with a game-high 18 points.
