Liga Sudamericana schedule confirmed
The 2016/2017 edition of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana has been drawn by the International Basketball Federation. Along with the teams to compete the group phase, the organization also revealed the full schedule for the tournament, which will commence on September 21st.
As the second tier continental contest in South America, Liga Sudamericana is a hugely important tournament. Besides the prestige of winning the early season competition, the winner gets a berth in the top tie Liga Americas tournament that tips off in the New Year. This is the 21st edition of Liga Sudamericana and the champion of this year’s competition will crown a champion in December.
The Group Phase is split into four groups of four clubs who will play over different dates and locations. This round robin will be conducted over 3 day chunks throughout September. For each group, two teams will progress to the Semifinal Phase which will see the teams split into two groups of four teams. The second round robin will see one team from each group progress into the final.
