Levicki Wins Their First Slovakia SBL Championship
It was a festive atmosphere reverberating with jubilation as BK Levicki Patrioti captured the team’s first-ever Slovakia SBL Title on Sunday, May 13th. They convincingly defeated KB Kosice 81-66 in Game 5 of the finals series. Prior to bagging this crown, Levicki’s best achievement in the domestic Slovakian hoops scene was to finish as the regular season champion in 2013. They ended the 2017-18 regular season in second place with a 26-10 record.
This game went pretty straightforward. Levicki started off strong and ended the first quarter with a narrow 15-14 lead. The home crowd egged on their team and it powered them to increase their lead with each passing period. From there, they just let their momentum snowball into the blowout win in the end.
Levicki remained dominant on both ends of the floor. Kosice simply could not keep up. Tanel Kurbas finished with a game-high 17 points for Levicki. Zarko Djuric and Boris Bojanovsky added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Kosice’s effort was anchored on the 16-point effort put up by Rahmon Fletcher.
This was a huge day for Levicki Patrioti and a special one at that. Can they keep this up come 2018-19? That will be the question every Slovakia SBL club will be looking to find the answer to.
