Lavar Simmons joins Challans
Bahamian power forward Lavar Simmons (201 cm, Master’s’05) will stay in France after penning a three year contract with Vendee Challans (NM1). Simmons has spent his entire professional career in French Basketball and this season he has been taking to the court with ProB outfit Saint-Quentin. He featured 24 times for the club and picked up averages of 7.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. The 30-year old has built a reputation as one of the best defenders in the French league and he will look to keep his strong rebounding stats when he continues his career with Challans.
Lavar Simmons will be joining a Challans team that finished this season’s NM1 in 14th place, a position the club will hope to improve on next season. The team’s head coach Masse Freddy welcomed Simmons on the club website.
“Lavar is a well-known player and Pro B NM1 5-4 post, he is a renowned physical player, he built his reputation by the intensity he puts into his game, he has been for three seasons the best inside me in the NM1. It will be our point of attachment inside.”
