Lamar Odom To Resume Career in China
Former NBA forward Lamar Odom (208 cm, Rhode Island’09) is coming out of retirement and will play in China for the upcoming 2018-19 season. The 38-year-old Odom broke the news to his fans and supporters via his Instagram account. The two-time NBA champion (2009, 2010) did not specify which team he will be playing for but cited Stephon Marbury as the inspiration for his comeback.
Odom has battled with depression and drug addiction, which shortened his NBA career. This will be a shot at redemption for the talented power forward, a second chance.
“I’m sober now. But it’s an everyday struggle,” he explained. “I have an addiction. I’ll always have an addiction. It never goes away. I mean, I want to get high right now. But I know that I can’t if I want to be here for my children.”
It remains to be seen how well Odom will be able to produce for the team that’s taking a chance on him. He played one game for Laboral Kutxa Vitoria in 2013-2014 where he scored two points and grabbed two rebounds. Odom last saw action in the NBA during the 2012-13 season. He played 82 games for the Los Angeles Lakers and registered averages of 4.0 ppg and 5.9 rpg.
