KR secures fifth consecutive Icelandic title
KR is once again the champion of Iceland after defeating Tindastoll to take the Dominos League title. The success marked a fifth consecutive league crown for KR, a half-decade of dominance that has seen the club become the king of Icelandic hoops. Indeed, the club now has a record 17 titles, pulling further ahead of rival IR on 15.
During this title series, the defending champs have looked a class above Tindastoll and it’s no surprise to see the club claim a 3-1 series win. In the fourth contest, the hosts looked excellent from the first buzzer, taking a 24-12. Tindastoll stopped the tide in the second act, taking it 20-21 to reduce the score to 44-33 through the long break.
The fight back from the visitors did not continue in the third quarter as KR got back the momentum with a 23-16 frame. That was enough for a 67-49 lead through thirty minutes and all but killed the contest. In the fourth quarter, a 22-24 concession to Tindastoll did little to stop the home floor celebrations as the title was wrapped.
Kristofer Acox paced the success with 23 points and doubled up with an impressive 15 points, while Brynjar Bjornsson dropped 16 points. Jon Stefansson secured 14 points in the win, with Pavel Ermolinskij took 10 boards.
Sigtryggur-Arnar Bjornsson kept Tindastoll in the contest with a game-high 27 points, while Antonio Hester took a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
