Kataja Basket wins 2017 Finnish Korisliiga title
Joensuun Kataja Basket have reclaimed the Finnish Korisliiga title this 2017 after defeating the Salon Vilpas Vikings in Game 6 of their series, 94-65. This marks the second Finnish league title for the organization. They last raised the trophy above their heads was in 2015. After a year off, they are back as the top team.
They had an easy time closing out the series in this game. They took an early advantage and snowballed their ever increasing lead from there. Kataja was the far more dominant team in the paint and they possessed a clear and decisive advantage on the boards. They grabbed a total of 45 rebounds, compard to just 26 by Salon Vilpas. They made the most of their edge in size and repeatedly scored well in close range. The team shot 31-of-54 from two-point range.
Jarekious Bradley paced Kataja Basket with 24 points and nine rebounds. Kervin Bristol notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Daniel Mullings came through with 23 points.
Brandon Edwards did his best to keep the Salon Vipas Vikings with 21 points. Only Desmond Williams was able to help him out in the scoring department with 10 points. Overall, the Vikings were outmatched down low and it showed. With not enough of their shots from long range connecting, it was difficult to spread out the offense.
