John Cox signs with Pau-Lacq-Orthez
John Cox (194 cm, USF ’05) agreed to terms with Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez (France-Pro A). Cox makes the move to the French team after playing this season with the Bucaneros De La Guaira (Venezuela-LPB). The Venezuelan team brought the 35-year-old guard off the bench with averages 10.8 ppg, 2.2 rpg and 1.9 apg in 14 LPB games. The veteran guard stayed with with the Bucaneros for the two consecutive seasons. The team knows he can’t play the minutes he once did in his youth. Knowing this, they brought him off the bench as a spark plug scorer.
Pau-Lacq-Orthez looks as if they will give Cox a similar role in order to finish their season on a high note. Currently, the French team is third in the Pro A with a 19-8 record. They are also playing well in the FIBA European cup as they lead Group O at 4-2.
This is a comeback to the Pro A for Cox. He last played in France with STB Le Havre (France-Pro A) in the 2014/2015 season. In 34 games, Cox scored 15.0 ppg while grabbing 3.0 rpg and 3.6 apg. Moving to Le Havre in 2014 was his third time to join the team since first debuting in 2006. He also played with Sluc Nancy Basket (France-Pro A), Paris-Levallois (France-Pro A) and Cholet Basket (France-Pro A) in an eight-year run in the top French league.
