Joel Embiid shut down for rest of season
Joel Embiid’s 2016-17 season is over. The Philadelphia 76ers are taking extra precautions with their star Cameroonian big man. A follow-up MRI done on his swollen knee has revealed a “more pronounced” tear in his meniscus. The organization does not want to risk a full tear. He was drafted third-overall by the Sixers in the 2014 draft. He missed his first two seasons as he recovered from foot surgery. Despite being injury-prone, Embiid has put on display this 2016-17 an amazing skill set and game that gives him the air of having the potential for being one of the league’s most dominant big man. That’s if he can stay healthy, of course. In the 31 games he’s played this season, Joel registered averages of 20.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 2.4 bpg. He has the tools, that’s for sure. The question now is whether or not he has the durability to make use of those said tools to carry Philadelphia into a new era.
