Joel Embiid Could Miss A Few Games
The injury bug keeps on biting for the Philadelphia 76ers. After losing their starting backcourt to injuries, the Sixers will also miss the services of superstar big man Joel Embiid for probably more than a couple of games. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Embiid has sustained a sprain on his left mid-foot and will sit out the Sixers’ back-to-back schedule against the Brooklyn Nets and the Charlotte Hornets. The Sixers did not disclose an exact timetable for Embiid’s return, as he is still to be re-evaluated in a few days.
Prior to this setback, Joel Embiid has already missed four games this season. Through 12 games, the superstar center is putting up a tremendous stat line of 32.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.8 blocks per contest. Embiid is coming off a productive year in which he led the league in scoring, and he’s following it up with an even better scoring display this season. After another early exit in the playoffs last year, Embiid and the Sixers are priming for a deeper postseason run, and possibly a stint in the NBA Finals.
This recent injury to Embiid is definitely a big hit to the Sixers, especially right now that they are missing their starting backcourt. James Harden and Tyrese Maxey are both sitting out due to injuries, so the Sixers are missing the services of their stars. But the undermanned Sixers surprised a lot of people recently, as they just carved a 115-106 win over Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons, and the Brooklyn Nets. That was a morale booster for the Sixers’ supporting cast, and there’s no doubt that this team will come out stronger when they get their stars back.
