JJ Redick lands in Milwaukee
JJ Redick (193 cm, Duke’06) ended being the biggest name transacted during the NBA’s recently concluded trade deadline. Many teams expressed interest in acquiring the sharpshooter from the Orlando Magic, but it was the Milwaukee Bucks that won the “Redick Sweepstakes” in the end via a six-player deal.
Redick is joined by Mexican big man Gustavo Ayon (209 cm, San Jose State’07) and Ishmael Smith (183 cm, Wake Forest’10) on his way to the Bucks. Milwaukee is adding Redick in the midst of the best season of his career. He has been averaging 15.1 ppg and 4.4 apg in 50 games for the Magic this season. He will likely serve as the Bucks’ spark off the bench in relief of Monta Ellis or Brandon Jennings.
In exchange the Magic are receiving Slovenian guard Beno Udrih (194 cm), Tobias Harris (203 cm, Tennesse’11), and rookie Doron Lamb (193 cm, Kentucky’12). The Magic get young blood in Harris and Lamb while gain some veteran leadership from experienced Beno Udrih, who will be expected to provide relief for oft-injured starting point guard Jameer Nelson (182 cm, Saint Joseph’04).
