Ivan Harris moves to Halifax
Halifax Rainmen (Canada, NBL) has announced the signing of American forward Ivan Harris (201 cm, Ohio State’07) for the coming season. The player’s signature will depend on FIBA clearance but it does look as though the former Miercurea Ciuc (Romania, Division A) forward who played 22 games for the teams last season will move to Canada. Last season he impressed with averages of 12.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. The 29-year old brings with him plenty of experience having played in Japan, Australia, Uruguay, Argentina, Finland, and the USA throughout his career. In an official press release the Rainmen welcomed Ivan Harris, with Halifax head coach Chris Terrell leading the chorus of approval.
Ivan is a complete pro that has proven it with high-level play in Europe, Australia and Asia over the past few years. Ivan possesses skills that NBA teams seek, especially his rare combination of size (6’7), with the ability to shoot the NBA 3 with excellent accuracy. While he may have been overshadowed by his star teammates at Ohio State, his ability to stretch the floor and draw opposing forwards out beyond the arc is part of the reason why Oden, Conley and Cook were so successful in the NCAA. He’s going to be a big part of our success in Halifax this season. When I was coaching in Romania, Ivan played for another team in the same league. I know his character is high and his ability to shoot the ball is rarely seen. He’ll help us.
