Italy Serie A Finals: Venezia gains 3-2 series lead
Umana Reyer Venezia has taken a decisive 3-2 lead in the Italy Serie A finals after edging out Dolomiti Energia Trento 65-63 in Game 5. The best-of-seven series resumes on June 20th. Of course, Venezia would prefer to close it out and claim the trophy, but with their backs to the wall expect Trento to come out swinging, leaving it all on the line to force Game 7. It was an exciting game which went down the wire.
With each team holding firm with two wins apiece, it was Dolomit Trento claimed an early advantage. They controlled the game in the first half and established, what looked like a secure 10-point lead, 28-38, as both clubs headed to their respective locker rooms for the halftime break.
Umana Venezia would fall a bit deeper into the hole in the third quarter, with Trento’s advantage expanding to 12 points. In the fourth and final period the Venetian club would mount their last stand. They mounted a huge rally and capped it off with a huge three-point shot by Michael Bramos as time was expiring to lift them to victory.
This has been an excellent season for Umana Venezia. If they are able to win on the 20th, this will be the club’s first ever league championship.
