Italian Serie A Playoffs Set
The Italian Serie A playoffs are set. The final seedings for the knockout stage of the 2017-18 season were settled in no less than the final round of the regular season, which ended on May 9th. Umana Reyer Venezia continued to ride high after capturing the FIBA Europe Cup. They managed to edge out league leaders EA7 Emporio Armani Milano 89-86 to lock down the league’s top spot. There is no doubt that the Venetian organization has strong tailwinds powering their recent momentum, possibly enough for them to be considered the favorites to be able to defend their Italian Serie A crown. Venezia is scheduled to face off against eighth seed Vanoli Cremona on May 13th.
Armani Milano may have lost the league leadership at the very end, but they still finished the regular season with a laudable 22-8 record. They are set to battle it out against Cantu on May 12th. On that same day, Openjobmetis Varese will go head to head against Germani Brescia which finished third in the Italian Serie A’s 2017-18 regular season with their 20-10.
Scandone Avellino ended 2017-18 with an identical 20-10 record but lost out on tiebreakers and round out the top-4. They will face Dolomiti Energia Trento on May 13th.
Italian hoops is in a good place. Very good and very competitive teams rose to the top of the Italian Serie A and have advanced into the playoffs. Will Venezia defend their title or will Armani Milano reclaim the championship or will a new team raise the trophy above their heads after all is said and done?
