Inter Bratislava wins Slovakian title
It took some time, 17 years in fact, but after a tight 82-80 victory over MBK Rieker Komarno, BK Inter Bratislava are once again Slovakian Extraliga Champions. The long wait is finally over, but it did not come easy for Inter Bratislava. Komarno pushed the eventual league champs to their limits, forcing them to steal back-to-back victories after being down in the finals series 2-3.
In spite of having the home court advantage, Kormano could not force overtime while being down by only two points in the dying moments of the fourth quarter. Inter Bratislava’s rallies were met head on and the game’s lead was tightly contested via a few lead changes in the last period. At the end of the day, Inter Bratislava had just enough in them to keep the advantage at the end of regulation to come away with the dramatic victory.
The winners were led by Martin Rancik (204 cm) who finished the game with 20 points. American import and former Phoenix Suns player, Alando Tucker (198 cm, Wisconsin ’07) added 19 points in the winning effort. The team’s starting point guard, Serbian Nenad Milosevic (190 cm) chipped in 11 points.
Kormano rode on the shoulders of young import Amin Stevens (201 cm, Florida A&M’12) who scored 19 points and Martin Bilik (194 cm) who added 15 points of his own.
