Hungarian National Team leaving FIBA bubble
Several Hungarian National team players have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, and therefore the team will leave the FIBA bubble in Ljubljana (Slovenia). They were there to play two FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifier games and defend their 1st place in group F.
The FIBA says;
Following the Covid-19 Protocol for FIBA Official National Team and Club Competitions and the advice of its Medical Commission, FIBA has decided to postpone the games of Hungary in the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the health and safety of players, coaches and officials being the primary consideration.
The decision was taken after six members of the Hungary delegation, including five players, tested positive for COVID-19 after arrival on-site, despite all delegation members having provided two negative tests prior to their arrival in Slovenia. Among these individuals, four have been placed back in isolation and the test results of two others have been subject to further evaluation.
The games of Austria – Hungary on November 28 and Slovenia – Hungary on November 30 will not take place and will be rescheduled in the February 2021 window.
FIBA will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and communicate any further updates regarding its competitions if necessary.
