Hoverla clinches Higher League trophy
After cruising to through the Regular Season, Hoverla also eased through the Play-Offs and wrapped up its promotion to the Ukraine SuperLeague. The new Higher League champions defeated Polotekhnik Lvov in Game 2 to sweep the series. It was a nervy contest, however, which ended 77-79 to the visitors.
Hoverla has looked commanding all season, winning the Higher League Regular Season with a 22-6 record. That was four wins better than any other club in the division.
In the title decider, the team found itself 10 points behind after the first quarter. However, a rally in the second frame allows Hoverla to lead by three points during the halftime break. The visitors were never allowed to pull away, but managed to wrap up the title in the final seconds of the game. It was close, thought, with Lvov posting an impressive 19-9 fourth act that made it a memorable finale.
Kyrylo Podkovyrov drained 19 points in the win, while Stanislav Serpilin secured 18 points and Oleksandr Shostuha managed 16 points. Roman Gumeniuk grabbed 10 rebounds for Hoverla.
Roman Novikov stood out in the loss, claiming 22 points and 9 boards. Andriy Kobets and Dmytro Khodov scored 15 apiece.
