A hooligan clash delayed the start of the Adriatic league game between home team Buducnost (Montenegro) and Partizan Belgrade (Serbia).

During the warm up fans of the two teams were provoking each other to the point that they stormed the court and charged at one and other.

The riot police managed to prevent a massive fight, but the game was delayed and the aborted fight took to the streets of Podgorica after the game. Several people were injured and 16 individuals had to be hospitalized.

Violent clashes are rare between Montenegrins and Serbs since there is practically no difference between the two, and roughly one third of all inhabitants of Montengro call themselves “Serbs” instead of “Montenegrins”. When Montengro declared independence from Serbia, via a referendum, in 2006 only 56 % of the population (600.000) voted in favor. Since then, ethnic tensions have increased in this small country.

Partizan head coach Dusan Vujosevic (born in Montenegro himself) was finally allowed to coach his team again after a three game suspension by the Adriatic league. It doesn’t seem that he has changed his habits because after only 6 minutes into the game he got his first technical foul. His young team won the game surprisingly easy with 81-62.
