Graeme Allen new GM of Game Development, BB Australia

Dandenong Basketball Association Chief Executive Officer Graeme Allen has been appointed the new General Manager of Game Development within Basketball Australia.

In the position – formerly known as General Manager of Community & Participation – Mr Allen will be charged with driving the growth of basketball in Australia at a grassroots level.

Key priorities include:

• The development of a National Online Registration Program;
• The continued growth of the Aussie Hoops program;
• The development of a National Facilities Plan to boost investment in basketball infrastructure; and
• In conjunction with members and stakeholders, implementing the Growth Action

Plan to increase engagement with basketball among the broader community.
Mr Allen will also assume the newly-created role of Chief of Staff within BA – driving strategy for operational management and working with the Senior Executive Team to deliver BA’s Strategic Plan.

Chief Executive Officer Kristina Keneally said Mr Allen’s proven track record with the Dandenong Basketball Association would be an asset for BA as the organisation looked to increase participation at a community level.

“Graeme will be a very welcome addition to the Basketball Australia team, and will certainly build on all of the good work done by our previous Community and Participation GM Michael Haynes,” Ms Keneally said.

“Graeme comes to the role with demonstrated success in organisational strategy, a great deal of experience in financial management and corporate governance, and exceptional relationships with key stakeholders.

“The continued success of Dandenong’s elite teams in WNBL and SEABL championships – as well as Dandenong’s substantial growth in business operations and participation – is testament to Graeme’s hard work with the association.

“Further, Graeme was a key driver of the Dandenong Basketball Association’s long term management agreement of Dandenong Stadium – a move which locked in the association’s financial viability. That kind of long-term vision for local basketball will be a boon for BA.”

Mr Allen – who starts in the role on 15 October 2012 – will stay with the Dandenong Basketball Association until the end of September to ensure a smooth transition for the new CEO.

“There are clearly big changes underway at BA, which is exciting for the organisation and for the broader basketball community in Australia,” Mr Allen said.

“I’ve very much valued my time with Dandenong, which has such a proud success story to tell: more than 15,000 people using the facility weekly, 870 teams, 74 clubs, 34 representative teams and 5 teams playing in national competitions.

“I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to bring my experience with Dandenong to a national level, and I’m really excited to join the vibrant team at BA as we embark on our big projects ahead.”
