Dragic irked by Australia vs Angola game
Phoenix Suns point guard and Slovenian national team star player Goran Dragic (190 cm) took to social media to express his disappointment with how a game in the ongoing FIBA World Cup 2014 was played out. Dragic was referring to the group stage game between Angola and Australia.
He tweets:
Basketball is a beautiful sport, there is no room for fixing the game like today Australia vs Angola!! @FIBA should do something about that!
— Goran Dragic (@Goran_Dragic) September 4, 2014
Dragic used the term “fixing” not as a reference to a means for financial gain, but the unsportsmanlike intentional loss of a team to avoid an opponent. Australia was 3-1 heading into their game against Angola and guaranteed to advance into the next stage of the competition. Despite being the hands down favorite in their match up against Angola, they opted to play their reserves and ended up losing 83-91. Dragic believes they lost on purpose to avoid a potential collision course with team USA in the quarterfinals.
