Gilvydas Biruta signs with Piacenza

Gilvydas Biruta (203 cm, Rhode Island ’15) inks a deal to join UCC Assigeco Piacenza (Italy-Serie A2). Biruta is joining a Piacenza team which sits in 11th place in the Serie A2 with an 11-14 record. The addition of the Lithuanian big man will add another post scoring and rebounding presence. Earlier this season, Biruta played with Aries Trikalla BC (Greece-A1) for 21 games. He averaged 11.0 ppg with 7.0 rpg in his second season in the Greek league.

Last season, Biruta was a part of GS Lavario (Greece-A1) during his first professional season. In just five games with Lavario, he played 11.6 mpg with 3.4 ppg. He joined Lavario after debuting in Europe with Neptunas Klaipeda (Lithuania-LKL) at the beginning of the year. The Lithuanian squad held Biruta on the roster for 21 games where he scored just 3.5 ppg in 10.4 mpg. His new team will look to give Biruta more playing time to improve his game.
