French Pro A: Pau-Lacq-Orthez Closes Round 5 with Win
The French Pro A closed out Round 5 of the 2018-19 regular season with one game. Pau-Lacq-Orthez surprised many with a huge upset over the Levallois Metropolitans 84-69. The win takes them to 2-3 and jump up in the standings to 14th place. Levallois is 3-2 and they slip to ninth place. ASVEL (5-0) takes the solo lead of the French Pro A after JDA Dijon lost at the hands of JSF Nanterre 77-73 on October 13th.
Pau-Lacq-Orthez secured the win thanks to some hard work in the low post. They pounded the rock in the paint as much as possible and it paid off in spades. Donta Smith made 8-of-10 shots from 2-point range and wound up delivering a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double performance for the winners. He set the tone and his aggressiveness paved the way for his teammates to dive in with him. Vitalis Chikoko and C.J. Harris added 16 points each.
On the Levallois’ side, only Julian Wright and Roko-Leni Ukic managed to score in double figures with 18 and 12 points, respectively.
