FMP, Cedevita stay unbeaten in ABA League
The ABA closed out Round 4 of its 2019-20 regular season on Monday with an important game. FMP managed to keep their pristine 4-0 slate intact via a homestead win over Igokea 78-73.
Only two teams remain undefeated in the ABA League, FMP and Slovenia’s KK Cedevita Olimpija. Perrenial league powerhouse Crvena Zvezda Belgrade is off to a slow 2-2 start, but the ever-dominant Serbian team should not be discounted this early into the season. Until they find their old form, the top dogs will be the ones with the targets on their backs.
Cedevita stopped a formidable foe in BC Partizan on October 26. They emerged victorious, 85-69, thanks to a well-rounded team effort. Scoring 15 points apiece, Marko Simonovic and Codi Miller-McIntyre paced three other teammates to score in double figures for Cedevita. The team’s unselfish play this season has drawn the attention of other clubs and observers alike. They seem to have been able to exemplify how superior teamwork can best star power, especially in European basketball.
In FMP’s win over Igokea, Marko Jeremic poured in 21 points to help power the hosts to victory. It was a solid back-and-forth affair as both teams played hard. However, a timely 16-6 run by FMP at the end of the third quarter ended up being the go-ahead swing of momentum that allowed the red shirts to command the last frame and keep their perfect record intact.
So far, it’s looking like the ABA League has new leaders in 2019-20, ushering a fresh and highly competitive atmosphere.
