Flip Saunders in, Kahn out for Timberwolves
Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has taken the team off the market and instead decided to shake things up in upper management. He has signed Flip Saunders to a multi-year contract to become the President of Basketball Operations with an ownership stake in the team. Saunders coached the Timberwolves from 1995 to 2005.
This move is in conjunction with Taylor’s decision to not pick up the team option on incumbent president David Kahn’s contract. Taylor had this to say in a statement by the team:
”We want to thank David for all of his efforts the past four years with our basketball team, These are always difficult decisions, but at this time, we believe it is in the best interest of our organization to make a change. We wish David all the best in the future.”
During Kahn’s four-year tenure with the team, the Wolves racked up a disappointing 89-223 record. The team’s star power forward and US Olympian Kevin Love has been vocal regarding the team’s need for improvement. Kahn for his part had this to say regarding Taylor’s decision:
”It’s always the owner’s prerogative,” Kahn told The AP. ”I don’t think it’s appropriate to say whether it’s fair or not. I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Glen gave me.”
