Fenerbahce extends EuroLeague winning streak to six games
Fenerbahce maintained its excellent form in the EuroLeague, thanks to its 83-89 road win over CSKA Moscow.
In a late thriller that was decided in crunch time, Fenerbahce stood tall and sealed its sixth straight win in the EuroLeague.
With no team claiming a significant lead throughout the game, Nando De Colo (22 points) and Jan Vesely (24) took over for the winners.
The two stars of Fenerbahce fueled a 2-9 run late in the fourth quarter to help their team earn the victory.
Fenerbahce has now won six in a row and improved to 11-10 in the EuroLeague standings.
The Turks are now tied with another three teams for the final playoff spot.
On the other hand, CSKA suffered its third loss in the last four EuroLeague games.
The Muscovites dropped to 15-6, but remained on top of the standings, tied with Barcelona.
Barcelona relied on its defense and rallied past Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade (60-72).
The Catalans led from start to finish and cruised to an easy victory on the road, thanks to a 2-17 run midway in the second half.
The visitors won their fourth straight and improved to 15-6 on the table.
Furthermore, they climbed to the top of the EuroLeague, as they have the tiebreaker over CSKA Moscow.
Zalgiris Kaunas survived a late thriller against Olympiacos and made a big step towards the EuroLeague playoffs.
With the game tied at 79, Thomas Walkup scored the game-winning two-pointer (with one second to go) and handed the Lithuanians the win.
On the other hand, the “Reds” missed a great chance for a crucial road win.
Even though they led by seven in crunch time (72-79), the visitors collapsed and suffered a painful loss.
Thanks to a 9-0 run, Zalgiris sealed the deal and is now sixth in the EuroLeague standings, at 12-9.
On the contrary, Olympiacos dropped to 11-10, tied with another three teams for the final playoff spot.
ALBA Berlin put an end to a three-game losing streak, after its 77-84 win over Baskonia on the road.
In a hard-fought battle at Fernando Buesa Arena, the visitors closed the game on a 6-10 run to seal the deal.
ALBA improved to 8-13, whereas Baskonia now is at 9-12. Both teams are still far from the playoff zone and their chance to qualify for the EuroLeague postseason is in jeopardy.
