FC Barcelona wins Liga Catalana title
FC Regal Barcelona has just claimed its sixth straight Liga Catalana title after defeating Morabanc Andorra 104-93. The friendly tournament culminated in an exciting duel between two teams that brought fast paced offense to the table. The Spanish powerhouse was boosted by a fantastic game from Justin Doellman who poured in 27 points to lead all scorers. Despite, his impressive game Andorra did not roll over under the pressure. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Both teams began the game on more tentative footing and were focused more on their defense. The flow of their offenses began to open up and Andorra took an early 36-28 lead to begin the second quarter. The clubs traded threes and fast break points during the second frame, with Barca stealing the lead for a while. Andorra managed to secure a slight 52-51 edge as both clubs walked off to the locker rooms for the halftime break.
When they returned it was a shootfest from teams and the pace of the game accelerated by several levels. After the whistle was blown signalling the end of the third quarter, Barca managed a narrow lead , 77-76. The game boiled down to an inspired 9-0 run by the victors that shattered an 85-85 tie. From there Barca kept control and held on to secure the win.
Aside from Doellman’s good game, FC Barcelona got help from Ante Tomic and Juan Carlos Navarro who added 14 and 13 points respectively. Andorra’s top performer was Roman Martinez who finished with 14 points. Kaloyan Ivanov chipped 13 points as well.
