EWE Baskets upsets Malaga to get first win in 7Days EuroCup

EuroCup

The 7Days EuroCup wrapped Round 4 action on Wednesday night and the slate of remaining games did not fall short when it came to their fair share of surprises and head-turning games.

One of the most notable games of the night was between EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Unicaja Malaga. EWE got their first EuroCup win of the season by upsetting a previously undefeated visiting Malaga squad.

It wasn’t just a matter of the German homecourt advantage coming into play here. The team played their hearts out and thanks to momentum garnered from an explosive second quarter, piled on the offense to overwhelm their Spanish guests.

Braydon Hobbs performed well for EWE, leading his team with 18 points (two 3s) and three assists. Speaking of which, EWE proved to be the better passing team in this contest, registering 19 assists, compared to 12 by Malaga. But both sides had their faults and errors, as the two clubs combined for 30 turnovers in this game.

Josh Adams paced Malaga with 14 points. They’re still currently the top team in Group D with a 3-1 record but are tied with Galatasaray and Asseco Arka (3-1), making the race in this group pretty tight moving forward. EWE got on the board for their first win last night but still have a lot of work to do since they’re on the outside of the advancing four teams from each group, looking in, with their 1-3 record.

With Malaga taking their first loss of the season, that leaves BC Partizan Belgrade as the last remaining undefeated team (4-0) left in the 7Days EuroCup.

Here are the rest of the results from October 23rd, capping off Round 4 of the 2019-20 7Days EuroCup regular season.
